April, 26th 2013, Rybinsk. – A number of NPO Saturn delegates took part in the inter-university students' scientific-technical conference entitled “The youth in science” which was held on 25-26 April at the NPO Saturn’s main higher-learning institution – P.A Solovyev Rybinsk State Aviation Technical University (RGATU). The conference curriculum was divided into 14 sections each dedicated to a specific field of knowledge ranging from jet engines to “a foreign language as a tool for successful professional communication”. The goal of the conference was to enhance the science and engineering-related activity of the undergraduate and postgraduate students, improving the quality level of the professional training of the future experts; developing the creative edge of the talented youth; ensuring the conditions for growing young highly-qualified scientists, engineers and future instructors.
Valery Poletayev, president of RGATU, honorable machine builder of the Russian Federation, doctor of technical sciences and professor inaugurated the conference. He emphasized its importance for both the university and the company, wished success to all the participants regarding the further development and materialization of the proposals made in their conference presentations.
NPO Saturn director of innovative development Dmitry Ivanov presented a report on the subject “Innovative policy of NPO Saturn regarding recruitment of young people into the high-tech sectors of the economy”.
In his report, Yuri Shmotin, NPO Saturn head of design, addressed the issues of designing the new-generation gas-turbine engines.
Speaking of the significance of the conference, Yuri Shmotin noted that “subjects of research are chosen by the RGATU research supervisors, students and postgraduates; however NPO Saturn is interested in having such research surveys consistent with the innovative projects already launched in the company. The NPO Saturn scientific-technical board has identified a number of prospective innovation-driven fields in the company’s operations and it is exactly within the frame of these fields that we want to support the research efforts of the university. Today we are talking about the four main fields of the company’s activity: development of a low-emission combustion chamber; introduction of high-temperature alloys and composite materials; development and fabrication of parts using polymer-matrix composites. Collaborating with RGATU, its best students and young scientists, we are creating a platform for solving the prospective, science and engineering tasks that both the company and the university are dealing with”.
