NPO Saturn: from MAKS to MAKS

Site news 10.08.2011

NPO Saturn (Rybinsk, Yaroslavl Region) is participating in the 10th anniversary International aviation and space salon MAKS-2011 that will take place from August 16th to 21st 2011 in the city of aviation science and engineering – Zhukovsky (near Moscow) at the airfield of the country’s central test base – M.M. Gromov flight and research institute.
Looking back at the way the company has passed from MAKS-2009 to MAKS-2011, NPO Saturn CEO Ilya Fedorov said: “This period saw the change of the team, even the people themselves have been restructured. The system of values has also evolved. Practically we have become a state-owned company both in terms of executing government-set objectives and caring for the people. People are the most valuable asset of the company. It is exactly due to them – young, creative and professional people – that we have been able to preserve the company for the region, the industry and the country as a whole.
The government support measures coupled with the own efforts of Saturn and Oboronprom allowed the company by the end of 2010 to considerably reduce the outstanding debt portfolio while increasing the productivity by more than 25% in 2011. The increase of the company’s equity capital has allowed NPO Saturn to significantly improve the structure of its balance. That in turn allowed to plan the company development for the nearest 2 – 3 years and consequently fund all the key projects. The results of a series of negotiations conducted during the first semester of 2011 allow to forecast the increase of the long-term order portfolio and considerably increase revenue starting from 2012.
The company had coped with the “rock bottom” of the crisis, started hiring people again and continues, as it did before, to upgrade its production facilities, implement Lean and carry out its product programs”.
During MAKS-2011 as part of the Oboronprom and United engine corporation exhibition room, NPO Saturn will present five of its products. In the commercial engines section: the SaM146 bypass turbofan engine for application on the new-generation regional and long-haul aircraft. In the military engines section: the 117S augmented power bypass turbojet engine for application on the Su-35 multi-role fighter; the AL-55 bypass turbojet engine designed for the world market of training and light military aircraft; the M70FRU marine gas-turbine engine delivering 14000 hp; the 36MT bypass turbojet engine for application on winged rockets.
For the very first time the flight program of the show will feature the prospective aviation complex of the fifth generation (PAK FA) and the Su-35 multi-role fighter that already demonstrated its performance during the MAKS-2009 salon – powered by the Saturn-designed engines. Also for the second time, Sukhoi Superjet 100 equipped with the SaM146 engines will fly at the MAKS air show, the SaM146 engine having started its serial production phase.
