Rybinsk, Russia – Paris, France, May 19, 2008.
Today the Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft powered with the SaM146 engines completed its maiden sortie in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Russia, initiating the flight-test program to be followed by the certification tests.
During the flight that lasted 1h 5 min the SaM146 engines provided climb of the SSJ to a height of 4000 feet. The engines and the aircraft verified the technical parameters and demonstrated excellent performance.
“We are very proud of this success and sincerely congratulate the SCAC company”, said Jean Paul Ebanga, PowerJet president. “This event is the important step for the development of the SaM146 program. It also manifested that Snecma and NPO Saturn can supply an up-to-date propulsion system, purposed for the new generation of regional jets”.
This first flight of the Superjet 100 has become the continuation of extensive program of ground and flight testing of the SaM146 engine, within the scope of which the tested engines have run over 1 100 hours. The total eight SaM146 engines will be flight-tested.
The SaM146 is designed by PowerJet, a joint venture between Snecma (SAFRAN Group) and NPO Saturn. The engine is built specially for regional aircraft of the new generation. It incorporates the most state-of-the-art design that has become the result of work experience of the two parent companies and their close partnership in the field of successful program realization.
PowerJet established in July 2004, is the joint venture of Snecma (SAFRAN Group), France and NPO Saturn, Russia. The company is responsible for management of the SaM146 program, including design, production, marketing and sales, as well as customer support and after-sales service. In April 2003, the SaM146 engine was chosen by the SCAC to power the SuperJet100 regional jet.
