NPO Saturn hits mass production of UAV engines

Site news 8.07.2013

July 8, 2013, Rybinsk. – NPO Saturn continues ramping up production volumes of the engines powering unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). The portfolio of orders to deliver small engines on the order of A.Y. Bereznyak Raduga Design Bureau has been established until 2015 inclusively. The total revenue in the period from 2013 to 2015 has exceeded 4 billion rubles.
A contract has been signed between NPO Saturn and A.Y. Bereznyak Raduga Design Bureau which completes the constitution of NPO Saturn’s production program until the year 2015 with regard to serial deliveries of engines installed on unmanned aerial vehicles. Contract execution term - 2013 – 2015.
First serial deliveries of UAV engines manufactured by NPO Saturn in the interests of A.Y. Bereznyak Raduga Design Bureau started back in 2008. The revenue from the first delivery contact in effect from 2008 to 2010 amounted to less than 1 billion rubles. In the frame of the first contract NPO Saturn not only mastered its small engines serial production setup but also managed to establish close links with Russian suppliers of furnished components and semi-finished products related to this specific production.
The follow-on program of serial deliveries of small engines to A.Y. Bereznyak Raduga Design Bureau was subdivided into 2 contracts. The first one being entered into in 2011 with the execution term in 2011 – 2015. The parties came to an agreement on the terms and conditions of the second contract in the second quarter of 2013 and signed it in July of 2013.
The overall revenue stipulated by the two contracts signed between NPO Saturn and A.Y. Bereznyak Raduga Design Bureau for the delivery of UAV engines in the period from 2013 to 2015 topped 4 billion rubles. Compared to the volume of production achieved in 2010 – 2012, the production program of 2013 – 2015 increased 3.5 times.
Such a considerable increase in volume of deliveries was achieved due to the implementation of the import-replacement program and a set of actions aimed at preparing the production facilities. In the frame of the federal target program “Development of the defense-industrial complex of the Russian Federation” NPO Saturn is carrying out works aimed at industrializing the company, which includes construction of new production shops and installation of new high-performance equipment as well as hiring and training of new qualified production and engineering personnel.
In order to consolidate the effort in design and serial production of UAV engines, a decision was made to merge NPO Saturn and Omsk Design Bureau, the latter also designs and manufactures engines for unmanned aerial vehicles. The companies had long been in close cooperation regarding the manufacturing of parts and sub-assemblies whose volume will substantially grow after the merger; a program of unifying the purchasing of components, materials and semi-finished products is also underway between the companies.
The established portfolio of orders and the implementation of the federal target program “Development of the defense-industrial complex of the Russian Federation” have brought NPO Saturn to mass production of UAV engines comparable in volume only to what existed before the collapse of the USSR.
