Discussion of what needs to be done to install the SaМ146 engines on the An-158 aircraft was the main purpose of the visit of NPO Saturn by the deputy general director – technical director of Ilyushin Finance Co. Yuri Ostrovsky and chief designer of GP Antonov Viktor Ischuk held on 21 July 2011.
As a reminder, the SaM146 program is a parity partnership program between the Russian NPO Saturn and French Snecma dedicated to the design and development, production and market promotion of the new SaM146 propulsion system to be installed on the new-generation regional aircraft. The first application of the SaM146 engine is Sukhoi SuperJet100 designed by Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company.
Having started serial production of the SaM146 engine, NPO Saturn is now working on an upgraded version of SaM146 having a 5% thrust increase as a result SCAC’s plans to expand the SSJ100 aircraft family.
At the same time, following the instruction of Russian government, NPO Saturn is looking into alternative applications of the SaM146 engine on other airframe types, in particular on Be-200, An-158 and Rekkof (former Fokker).
